About

Dr. Gary PresswoodI’m Dr. Gary Presswood, a forensic scientist (i.e., expert witness) and professional engineer specializing in construction, accident analysis, and roadway design.

Biography:I was first licensed as a professional engineer in Illinois in 1975. Since that time I’ve also been licensed to practice as a professional engineer in Indiana, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Nevada. After obtaining my Engineering degree from Southern Illinois University, I obtained a Masters Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), and ultimately a Doctorate in Science (ScD) from what is now California Southern University. In 1992 I left my positions with the City of Las Vegas Nevada, as their City Engineer and Deputy Director of Public Works, in order to pursue my primary goal as an expert witness analyzing legal issues (primarily for attorneys) such as vehicle accidents, slips-trips and falls, and construction accidents and failures. Prior to my employment as the Las Vegas City Engineer in 1987, I was also the City Engineer for Mt. Vernon, Illinois, then served as an engineering consultant for clients such as NASA, Departments of Army, Navy, and Air Force, Disneyworld, Marriott, and various International clients.

Although Las Vegas is now home, I serve clients in many states. I particularly enjoy the intellectual and technically demanding cases, the ones requiring challenges. My past professional interests and experience uniquely qualifies me as an expert in various types of Civil cases particularly involving safety related issues ranging from pedestrian falls to complex roadway design issues. It’s been my pleasure to serve both the Plaintiff and Defense.  I also provide building, site, and accessibility design services for clients in many states particularly for some of the major casinos in Las Vegas.

My family consists of my beautiful wife of nearly 35 years, Kirby, who has her own very successful real estate career [see kirbysellsvegas.com]. We’ve been blessed with seven children (sadly, two are deceased), and 12 grandchildren; however, we’re expecting more grandchildren with the upcoming marriage of our son Jess and his wonderful fiancé, Lindsay. Life has been good and I truthfully cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings! It’s my belief that one simply can’t grow intellectually or spiritually without challenges. I’ve had my share (haven’t we all) but all-in-all, life’s been good!

Interests:

I enjoy playing music (I sing, play drums, guitar, keyboards, bass, and several other instruments and also write music [see DocRock.org]), travel, snow skiing, golf, my vacation home on “the Lake”, reading, writing (especially technical articles), fishing, hunting, camping, and playing grandpa (most of the time).
